This is simply yet another example of butt hurt snowflake mentality...………..

This shit is really getting old...……….

Iowa athletic director Gary Barta apologized to the family of Hawkeyes basketball great Roy Marble on Tuesday for any hard feelings they have over the retirement of star player Luka Garza's number.

Garza last month broke the 32-year-old career scoring record held by Marble, is the two-time Big Ten player of the year and is among the front-runners for national player of the year. Iowa announced after Sunday's home win against Wisconsin that no one in the basketball program would wear No. 55 after this season.

Marble led Iowa to its only 30-win season and an NCAA regional final in 1987 and to the Sweet 16 the next year, and many consider him the program's best player ever. His No. 23 has not been retired.

"We have learned since Sunday that Roy Marble's family was hurt and feeling disrespected since that day," Barta said. "I just want to take a moment and share that absolutely that disrespect was unintentional and to publicly apologize for that."

Marble died of cancer in 2015 at age 48. He and Garza are the only Iowa men's players to score more than 2,000 points.

His son, Roy Devyn Marble, tweeted Monday he would never watch another Iowa game.

Roy wasn't a model citizen after he left Iowa but it's being pretty judgemental of Iowa to not retire Roy's first......especially with all the racial shit Iowa has dealt with in the last 12 months. His accomplishment's at Iowa were worthy of it, probably as much if not more than Garza's. And I'm the last guy to defend an Iowa Hawkeye.

I'm not sure if this is the case with Iowa but there are some schools that will only retire a player's # if he has earned his degree from that University. When I first heard this story reported that was my initial assumption as to why Marble probably didn't have his jersey retired.

Frankly Hot Pizza's take I totally don't agree with his narrative about the whining and complaining. This is a legitimate beef. Roy Marble was a terrific Iowa CBB player and was under the impression his jersey was retired. I'm shocked that it isn't.

No way the family thought his number was retired. There would have been a ceremony. He played four seasons at Iowa his last in 1989. Yes 1989. To see a family complain because another player had his number retired 32 years later and not theirs is absurd.

If they were so upset as they claim, why did they allow his son to attend Iowa as well?

Marble play 24 games during his rookie season with the Hawks in 89-90 and then didn't play in the NBA until 1994 when he played in a whopping 5 games.

29 game NBA career.

I'll take the over that Garza plays more than that in season 1 unless he gets hurt or something happens to the season.

The only thing these two have in common is that they scored the most points in Iowa history.

Was Marble a Big 10 player of the year no? Iowa had never had a Big 10 Player of the year once and here's Garza doing it back to back years. Not to mention First Team All American as a Junior. I can add a lot more achievements and none Marble had.

It's not even close...………..

I'm not comparing the two players. I agree Garza is better but Marble's jersey should have been retired.

Why should Marble's # be retired? Because he was the leader in points scored in Iowa history? Many players have a schools point record and their jersey isn't retired. I am not trying for a pissing match but Roy's # in my book doesn't belong retired. Look forward to your reasoning.

Should they retire the high scorer before Marble too? And how about the high scorer before him? And then before that guy too?

Live your life, find a reason to be happy, get rid of this type of thinking. Always worried about what somebody else gets, always becoming a victim, always thinking it's about racism or some other wrongdoing

JFC, grow up already, and care less about stuff that should be totally irrelevant to you
